Hand in Hand, We Learn.

Early Childhood Education (Nursery – Grade 1)

The early childhood academic program includes English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Mandarin, Physical Education, Music and Art at all grade levels at all campuses.  Technology, such as computer applications, is an integrated tool for learning and production.

Nursery – Prekindergarten learning environments and learning opportunities are designed to capitalize on the children’s natural curiosity and eagerness to engage with the world around them. Learning opportunities target development of oral language in both English and Mandarin, gross and fine motor skills, social interaction, scientific exploration, and mathematics underpinnings. Music, arts and crafts, physical education and Mandarin are integrated parts of the program.  Student growth and development is assessed as they engage in multi-sensory play and transdisciplinary exploration. By the end of Prekindergarten students are acclimated to the school setting and to learning in a group environment.

Kindergarten – Grade 1 learning opportunities are designed to widen the students’ familiarity with the basic tools of self-directed learning and how to use those tools to pursue academic learning.  Literacy, numeracy, measurement and basic skills of academic exploration such as scientific experimentation and social science research are emphasized. There is a gradual transition across kindergarten from learning through play to learning through more structured academic inquiry.  Student growth and development is assessed as they engage in transdisciplinary investigations and problem solving as well as through exercises targeting isolated skills, such as reading.

During the grades kindergarten – one there is a transition towards recognizing academic disciplines as distinct areas of study, e.g. recognizing science as distinct form social studies).

Across all campuses, in addition to Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, the weekly schedule includes 5 sessions of Mandarin, 2 sessions of Physical Education and 2 sessions of Music.  Each session is scheduled for approximately 45 minutes.
